Chronicles of the L-plate Warrior

The L-plate warrior is back again with yet another harrowing experience with the hazardous road. Today I went for my second driving lesson at Bukit Gombak. My instructor drove me to a big lorry park near the Bukit Batok Nature Reserve for some "Circuit training". Circuit training in this aspect means driving around in circles, nothing fancy. After 2 rounds, he stopped me and started to teach me the art of gear shifting. Halfway through the lesson, some mean people holding some mean electronic device came to the park and started giving tickets to the lorries parked there. The instructor, somehow intimidated by them, continued the lesson by starting from the top and keep an eye on their movement.

As these ticket giving punks came closer halfway through the lesson *again*, my instructor told me that he will drive me to another location to continue the lesson. So I changed seats with him and he drove all the way to the bus stop right outside the park. There, he told me to get into the driving seat again, which I did. There, he continued the story, I mean lesson, again by repeating the whole damn thing again. By then, it was pretty well drilled into my subconscious mind. After finishing the lesson, he looked back and decided that it was safe to go back and he spoke the 5 magic words. "Drive back to the carpark." I pretended no to hear anything, hoping that this is just my imagination when he said again, "Drive back to the carpark."

At that moment, sweat was beginning to form on my brow as I wanted to scream,"But I don't know how to f**king drive yet!". A simple "Ok" was all that I could manage. Then I started to do the routine start up procedure and just as the car pulled away, it stalled. DAMN! Must be too excited about being the menace of the road for the first time that I released my clutch too early. There goes my perfect record~ Anyway, its better that I stall here than stalling at a junction, right? My second attempt was much smoother, and voila, I was driving on the road! 10 seconds after I started driving on the road, he used another 3 magic words on me,"U-turn in front". Being the steady bom bee bee future-driver, I acknowledge him with another,"Uhhhh... Okay..." I was so surprised that I did not stall at the junction when I was performing the U-turn, I did not have time to gloat over it as some "Assshhh oooool" kept horning like there's no tomorrow. Can't he see I'm a L-plate warrior, that horny bastard! Anyway, having survived my first U-turn with causing a pile up, I drove along steadily along the road feeling quite happy.

Apparently the instructor did not like to see me happy as he used the 3 magic words again. U-turn again? Hmmmm, I thought, I survived the first one, so the second one should be a piece of cake as well. And a piece of cake it is, I managed my second U-turn quite professionally, having turned the steering wheel slightly hard and almost ripping it out. I swear I heard the heart of my instructor shatter as I turned the wheel too hard. "No need so hard, no need so hard", he said, in between sobs. Finally reached the car park safely to resume my circuit training after 10 minutes of dangerous manuveuring on the road. I was so relieved.

At the carpark, we did 30 minutes of circuit training before he decided to call it a day. Phew, I'm also getting tired after all those excitement earlier in the lesson and was looking forward to a leisurely lift to my pick up point, which was quite a distance from the carpark. I was about to undo my seatbelt when he used magic for the last time of the day. "Now you drive back to the pick up point, okay?", he said smilingly. I almost collapsed.

And this was all in a days work for the L-plate warrior. Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of the Chronicles of the L-plate warrior!

Oh and now that I'm driving on the road, plesae check with me whether I'm driving when you are planning to go Gombak area, okay? It's for your own safety sake!
